In my island of dreams, with impossible schemes.

March 10, 2007

News: I’ll be spending March and April in Shanghai on business. Should be very exciting; I can’t believe this is my first international trip. Had a bit of drama trying to get my passport in time to start the visa application process before everyone in China went on vacation for the Chinese New Year, but everything’s set now. Looking forward to that fourteen-hour flight!

Travel update 11/06.

November 9, 2006

Tomorrow I’m going to Florida for a wedding, then flying to New Orleans at the crack of dawn on Sunday. Better not have too much fun at the reception! From there I’m driving to Biloxi, MS for a week of volunteering on hurricane cleanup projects with Architecture for Humanity and/or Hands On Gulf Coast. I’m spending next weekend back in Nawlins (on the agenda: catching as much live music as possible; eating at Mother’s) before going back to Florida for Thanksgiving. Hopefully they’re gonna work me hard enough in Biloxi that I won’t get fat from all that food. I love the South.

Flaubert on Travel

May 31, 2006

Seen on Marginal Revolution:

“Of all possible debauches, travel is unsurpassed by any I know. It’s the one invented after all the others have ceased to excite.”

I love the idea of travel, but I grumble over the practical aspects. My hope is that as I tire of other debauches, the practicalities will seem less of a hassle and more like an integral part of the experience.

PDC Recap

Imagine a post where I describe my experiences at the Microsoft Professional Developers’ Conference and my reactions to Windows Vista, Project Linq, and some of the other new technologies that Microsoft is introducing.

About that San Francisco trip.

I should probably talk about my trip to San Francisco. Imagine a post where I do that.

Travel plans

August 16, 2005

So I’m going to the PDC in Los Angeles again this year. That’s the Microsoft Professional Developer’s Conference, for the non-nerds. Seems that I just managed to grab one of the last 100 seats.

But first, I’m going to San Francicso this weekend. I’ve been to California a total of two times in my entire life. I’m doubling that total in just the next five weeks!
